Good morning/afternoon members of the audience. I would like to take a brief moment from your lives to talk to you about something that in my mind is unjust.
In this modern day world we live in, natural disasters happen daily right across the globe, lives are lost and destroyed, homes become rubbles of rock. Millions of dollars are lost in all this destruction, and people go for months, sometimes years, without a house or belongings to call their own. This is happening right now in the recently earthquake hit town of Christchurch in New Zealand.
Although on the other side of the world, New York are just cleaning up after this years 'New York Fashion week'. This is a nine day week full of extremely unhealthily skinny woman, dressed up in clothes that famous designers create for these 'models' to were once while they walk up and down a 'catwalk'. Each of these outfits cost hundreds of dollars to both design, and to make, and the only time they are ever worn is during these fashion shows, as they are too stupid and impractical to were anywhere else, that's not to mention the price that these dresses go for after being seen at Fashion Week.
All this money that is being spent on these unnecessary 'fashion' weeks should be in my opinion spent on helping to rebuild the lives and homes of the less fortunate in these aftermath zones of natural disasters. These millions of dollars being wasted on cloths, advertising, sponsorships, the models salary of over $200 a show for just walking up and down a line on the floor a few times, plus around $50 for preparation time, and many other things should be spent refurbishing homes and rebuilding peoples lives! All these things come at a cost, and unfortunately these costs are being spent on things that are not needed.
